Oiling the Wheels

Dave Parry talks to Steve Bewers about helicopters that need to travel on ground transport.

Moving your helicopter is easy providing everything is in order and you have a safe place to land. Challenges arise when the laws of ‘fairness to aviators’ aren’t playing ball; when you’ve had a forced landing, when your craft has to be in a different location for repairs or just simply, for whatever reason, that it can’t be flown to where you want it. These events, unfortunately, are not uncommon and reliance upon the wheel again becomes necessary.

Transporting your beloved by road is a bit worrying though. It would seem that the chances of damage could be high. You’d like to know that the people recovering and moving your helicopter would do it, without fuss, with the right equipment and with professionalism and with sympathy for the situation. I’ve been fortunate enough to have close links with a company involved with aviation ground movements and recovery. This company has moved small 300’s to Twin Squirrels and Air Ambulances, from a variety of situations to a myriad of locations. I interviewed Steve Bewers of D&G Aviation (subsidiary of D&G Cars Ltd) to get an insight as to the special considerations that he makes when involved in these processes....
