Dear Georgina,
I need to correct Reg Austin’s statement in the Autumn Edition of Helicopter Life that Westland “pulled out of UAV development” prior to his leaving the company to join ML Aviation, to develop the Sprite remotely piloted helicopter. I had by then taken over as Head of RPH Engineering and was responsible for the design and development of the Westland Wideye, an altogether more ambitious design than Wisp and its look-alike the ML Aviation Sprite. Wideye stood man-high, weighed 125kg and carried a 25kg payload consisting of a television camera on a stabilised platform produced by Marconi Avionics... |
