The Big Dwarf

 

Helicopters belong to a class of machine that tickles the interest of anyone who likes aviation. The possibility of flying backwards, or simply standing motionless, like Milton’s servants ‘who only stand and wait' , in the air, creates in many an enthusiasm that leads them to want to train as a helicopter pilot. Most cannot because of the cost, and the necessity of training hard to acquire sufficient skill in flying to be safe. Even fewer have a sufficiently large piggy bank to buy their own helicopter, and when they do, these are mostly machines from the ‘dwarf’ range: twin-seaters, and simple to handle.

Humans everywhere have big dreams and long for these to be fulfilled in reality. One such dreamer is called Valerian Kiessling. He lives on a lighthouse rock in the Bamberg region (Upper Franconia) and is the owner of a flourishing leather factory. For many years Kiessling flew fixed-wing aircraft, but a certain boredom then set in, and he decided to revitalize his love of flying by training on a helicopter...
