In his introduction, Jim Schofield says that he had not intended to make the book personal, but in the event it was impossible to write it any other way. Thanks to this we learn about his daughter’s problems with American spelling during his time with Bell in Texas, and his Naval Surgeon daughter-in-law’s complaints about having to work hanging out of a Lynx.
