NASA’s Helicopter Cushion

After analysing the statistics of serious injuries in helicopter accidents NASA scientists have designed  a ‘helicopter cushion’ to help reduce the impact of hitting the ground.

Using an MD 500 donated by the US army, testers at NASA's Langley Research Centre in Hampton, Virginia,  dropped the dummy filled helicopter from 35 feet to see whether the cushion could lessen the damage....
