Alouette III

After forty-six years of service, the Era of the Alouette III in the Swiss Air Force finally comes to an end in December 2010. As of Mid September, only ten Alouette IIIs were still operated by the Swiss Air Force. The helicopters are not stationed at a specific Airbase, but Alpnach is the main operating base for the helicopter fleet and the Training School. The other Swiss Air Force helicopter bases are Payerne, Dübendorf and Bern-Belp, which houses the two new EC635 VIP helicopters. As helicopters are flexible they can also operate out of the various Jet bases: Sion, Emmen, Meiringen and Locarno. By end 2010 some Alouette IIIs will find a new future in Pakistan, supporting Search and Rescue units...
