Learn to Fly Navy
In 1920, the area of Lanvéoc in Brittany was selected as one of thirty-seven centres for French Naval Aviation seaplane support. Located opposite the city of Brest, on the Peninsula Crozon, the first major construction of the Lanvéoc-Poulmic Naval Air Station began in 1930. The base was occupied during World War II, and 90% of it was destroyed by Allied bombers. In 1944, the Air Station was rebuilt.
The first helicopters arrived in 1964, followed by the SA.321 Frelon seven years later. In 1975, 34 Flottile (Squadron) was transferred to the base with its Alouette IIIs. 34F now has seven Lynx HAS4 helicopters in the ASW (Anti Surface Warfare) role. In 1995 the Rescue Training Centre (Centre d'Entrainement à la Survie et au Sauvetage de l'Aéronautique Naval) was relocated from St. Mandrier to Lanvéoc-Poulmic.... |
